After clinching the 2024 AFF Cup title on Thai soil, Xuân Sơn and the Vietnam national football team arrived back in the country on the afternoon of January 6.
In the AFF Cup 2024 final, Vietnam triumphed over Thailand with an aggregate score of 5-3 across two legs: a 2-1 victory in the first leg and a 3-2 win in the second. This marks the third time the “Golden Star Warriors” have claimed the championship at Southeast Asia’s premier national team tournament.
Under the leadership of head coach Kim Sang-sik, Vietnam’s journey to the title was nothing short of convincing, as they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament with seven wins and one draw.
At around 2:30 PM, members of the Vietnam national football team arrived at Nội Bài Airport in Hanoi. A large number of Vietnamese fans had gathered early to celebrate the remarkable achievement of head coach Kim Sang-sik and his players.
Among the team members, forward Xuân Sơn’s condition drew significant attention. During the 32nd minute of the second leg of the final, the striker suffered an injury and had to leave the field immediately, being rushed to the hospital. Doctors later diagnosed him with fractures to both bones in his right shin, requiring a lengthy treatment and recovery process.
